4 Ways to Get Longer Eyelashes

Keen to ditch the daily mascara routine and have longer lashes for, well, longer? If there’s one hot beauty look that’s universally in fashion, it’s thick long eyelashes. Eyebrow trends go from thick to thin and back again, but long lashes have never gone out of style – ever!

For those busy ladies who are tired of applying and reapplying mascara every day, we’ve got a few ways to help make your eyelashes longer. Bat those lashes, pretty ladies – and if they’re not long enough, not to worry! Here are 4 ways to get longer lashes.

How to make your eyelashes longer

Whether you’ve noticed your eyelashes aren’t as full as they once used to be, or you’ve just never been blessed with thick long lashes – here’s how you can help get longer eyelashes.

1. Eat a hair-friendly diet

There are lots of foods that support healthy hair growth, and if you want longer lashes you need healthy hair! The best foods for your hair are:

  • Salmon – Contains Omega-3 fatty acids which promote thick, shiny hair growth,
  • Spinach – Has a medley of vitamin A, iron, beta-carotene, folate, and vitamin C, which all moisturise and strengthen hair,
  • Greek yoghurt – Has vitamin B5 which promotes blood flow and encourages thick hair growth,
  • Cinnamon – Helps with circulation, bringing more oxygen and nutrients up to your hair follicles for longer, thicker hair,
  • Green tea – Both drinking green tea and applying it to your hair can help stimulate growth and soften strands (we wouldn’t apply green tea to our lashes though, just head hair!)

2. Gently remove makeup at night

Believe it or not, simple things like going to sleep with your mascara on can inhibit hair growth and prevent your lashes from being long and strong! Mascara can dry your lashes, make them brittle, and encourage breakage and eyelash loss. The longer you leave it on, the less your lashes have a chance to breathe, rejuvenate, and grow stronger, longer, and healthier.

At the same time, avoid being too rough when cleaning your eyelids and lashes. Be gentle when removing makeup, and use something like coconut oil that will both remove makeup and moisturise your lashes at the same time. While we’re at it, avoid using waterproof mascara on a daily basis as it’s even more difficult to remove and will dry your lashes out more than other mascaras.

3. Use castor oil

Castor oil is touted as the miracle home remedy for stimulating hair growth (and inducing birth, funnily enough!) Only a few drops are needed to make your lashes thicker and stronger, and grow faster.

Mix 1-2 drops of organic, cold-pressed castor oil with 1-2 drops of olive oil and apply onto your lashes with a Q-tip before going to bed. Do this every night and be sure to wash the serum off in the morning without fail. Before long, you should see little new baby lashes peeking through!

4. Get eyelash extensions

For those ladies who don’t have the time to gently remove their makeup every night or apply oils to their lash line, there’s a quick fix solution. Eyelash extensions give you longer eyelashes quickly and effortlessly, so you can ditch the mascara and false lashes for a few weeks.

Lash extensions involve applying anywhere between 35 – 600 eyelashes to your lash line to add volume, length, and thickness to your natural eyelashes for up to 6 weeks. If you want to look bold, look bold! If you just want a little fullness, you can have a little fullness! Lash extensions are the perfect solution for ladies who want to wake up with gorgeous lashes and skip the daily eye makeup routine.

That said, don’t try to put in lash extensions then apply castor oil to stimulate hair growth for that extra length! Avoid applying any kind of oil when wearing eyelash extensions, as it will break down the adhesive and the extensions won’t hold. You’ll have the opposite of longer lashes…

Allergic reaction to lash extensions

Properly applied lash extensions shouldn’t be painful or uncomfortable to wear. If they are, something is probably wrong. It’s possible to have or develop an allergy to eyelash extensions or, more commonly, an allergy to the glue used to attach the extensions. Genuine reactions tend to be rare but can develop out of nowhere, just…
