Everything You Need to Know About Eyebrow Tinting
Ladies with faint eyebrows, we’ll be honest. Bold, dark eyebrows aren’t going anywhere, so if you thought you could just sit this trend out and wait for it to pass, it might be time to move on to a Plan B. Of course, not everyone has the time to sit and draw eyebrows on every morning, and that’s why we’ve been blessed with the art of eyebrow tinting.
Brow tinting looks more natural than those overdrawn, heavy-handed brows. It’s a lot more effortless, looks a lot more glam, and needs less maintenance than drawn on eyebrows. It’s the life-changing beauty secret of ladies who haven’t been naturally blessed with a set of thick, dark brows. Interested? Here’s everything you need to know about the wonderful world of eyebrow tinting…
1. Why go for eyebrow tinting?
What can eyebrow tinting do for you? Well firstly, your eyebrows will look instantly thicker. The tint will darken all the fine, light hairs within & surrounding your eyebrows, introducing you to a heap of hairs you never even knew existed! Thicker brows also help to frame and lift the face, adding definition that makes your eyes look brighter and more open. And this all happens using your natural, existing hairs, so there’s never any danger of overdoing it or looking excessive.
2. Does eyebrow tinting suit me?
Are you a human being? If so, yes. Back in the day there was only one colour available for eyebrow tinting, making it something that’s not really suitable for every kind of face. But now, eyebrow tint colours are able to be completely customised to suit each individual person. So you don’t have to worry about those light eyebrows suddenly being pitch black – it’s all about customising the shade to suit you.
3. Can I tint my eyebrows at home?
We don’t like telling people what to do, but we don’t like seeing people putting themselves in danger, either. Eyebrow tinting is something that should really be left up to the professionals. You might find a few Youtube videos and WikiHow tutorials, but honestly, your eyebrows are too close to your eyes for you to be messing around with them on your own.
Your best bet here is to go to someone with extensive training and experience. You can either go to a hair colourist or an eyebrow technician, but a brow technician is best as they’ll be using dyes that are specifically for eyebrows (whereas hair colourists may use dyes designed for head hair).
4. How does eyebrow tinting work?
The eyebrow tinting process is pretty self-explanatory. The whole process takes no longer than 20 minutes and can easily be added on to your usual eyebrow shaping/waxing treatment. Best of all, it’s completely painless (unlike the waxing!) A gentle dye will be applied to the arches of your brows for around 10-15 minutes, darkening them by a shade or two. The tint will last for around 4-6 weeks, and then will slowly start to fade back to your natural hue.
5. How often do I need touch-ups?
Nothing lasts forever, and tinted eyebrows are no different! As dye fades and hairs fall out at the end of their growth cycle, to maintain your look in the best possible way you might want to go in for a touch-up around once a month. This’ll make sure your brows remain on fleek non-stop.
6. Who should avoid eyebrow tinting?
There are only two warnings for eyebrow tinting – first, you don’t want to tint your brows and get a spray tan on the same day. Doing so might cause the eyebrow tint to stain the skin a lot more than normal, leaving you with unexpectedly dark brows. Best option here is to tint your eyebrows at least 24 hours before the spray tan. It’s also important to try and do a patch test with your technician before you go for the full brow tint, just to check that you have no allergies or reactions to the dye used.
7. Does eyebrow tinting mean I won’t need brow makeup?
Alright, hold your horses there! Before you throw away your brow brushes and makeup, we’ve gotta let you know that one downside of highlighting and darkening each hair on your eyebrows is that gaps/scars will be made more obvious. So if there is a small patch on your brows with no hair, that’ll stand out quite clearly. Keep your brow pencils on hand as you may need to fill these gaps in from time to time!
